Solar panels and home batteries are often discussed together, but they solve different problems and one is usually the better first investment.
For most households, panels come first. Every kilowatt of generation you add reduces your daytime grid consumption, and across the country, self-consumption rates for new solar-only systems sit well above the old feed-in tariff, so solar still pays for itself quickly.
A battery makes sense once your solar production regularly exceeds what you use during the day, or if you want to keep the lights on through an outage. Rather than trying to work out the payback in your head, we run the numbers against your actual usage data and show you the difference with and without a battery.
If you know a battery is likely in your future, it is worth telling your installer on day one so they can size the inverter and cable runs correctly. Retrofitting is possible, but it is always more expensive.
